Foyle’s War was a drama series about a police superintendent during World War 2. The drama starred Michael Kitchen as Detective Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle, Honeysuckle Weeks as his driver Samantha Stewart, and Anthony Howell as Sergeant Paul Milner.

This episode involves the murder of an RAF technician. The technician is despised by several people, all of whom would have a motive for his murder. Foyle’s son has a particular reason to hate the technician, as the technician had failed to lubricate the canopy of Andrew Foyle’s spitfire. Andrew Foyle’s spitfire is flown by a friend on a sortie which results in a crash landing and the facial burning of the pilot, due to the sticking canopy. A second candidate for hating the technician is a local doctor, whose wife is having an affair with the technician. The third candidate is a member of the local landed gentry who is being blackmailed by the technician over an act of cowardice in the First World War. In the end the real killer is in fact the brother in law of the dead man who was concerned about the level of domestic violence meted out by the dead man against his sister.

Knebworth House is used as Digby Manor, a stately pile that has been requisitioned as a burns hospital for the RAF. The burnt pilot is taken here for treatment and the suspect doctor also works here. There is a sabotage sub plot in the episode which complicates the investigation.
