Although not formally open to the public, the lighthouse along the north shore of Pelee Island is accessible by foot in the
Lighthouse Point Provincial Park for visitors to stroll around and take a few photos.
To visit this lighthouse, visitors must park their bicycles or vehicles at the end of East Shore Road and hike a dirt path until they reach the beach. After quick left turn and a few more strides on the sandy shore, visitors will find the lighthouse.
The lighthouse house was constructed in 1833 and began service in 1834. The stone tower portion is 40 feet high and constructed from local limestone.
The lighthouse's service was discontinued in 1909 and the neighboring keepers house was destroyed shortly thereafter.
After falling into disrepair, the lighthouse was
restored in 2000.
