Located against the bluffs in Joliet's Bicentennial Park, this monument consists of a mosaic platform depicting flowers and birds with two tiles with text in the center which read:
"CHILDREN FOR PEACE PLEDGE
I am a Peace Builder.
I pledge to praise people,
to give up put-downs.
I will build peace at home,
at school,
and in my community every day.
Children for Peace is a Joliet Public Schools
District 86 initiative that began in 2003 to instill in
children peaceful strategies to resolve issues to make a
positive contribution to the community and to recognize
those who support peace in the Joliet community.
More than 11,000 students in District 86 schools
engage in various projects throughout the school year to
promote kindness, encourage positive self-esteem, and
foster constructive student relations.
The Children for Peace mosaics were
made by District 86 students."
