This marker is one of two on either side of a boulder near the bandshell in Joliet's Bicentennial Park.
It reads:

"Juliet/Joliet's first fire and
police by-laws and rules
were made in the
village's first adopted
charter in 1837. The first
volunteer firs department
was started at this site."
