As the real trains depart from the station above, characters in this mural are waiting to get on the train in 10 different scenes.
A placard accompanying the mural informs us about the importance of the railroad to this city's history. The first train came through in October 1852. The placard indicates that the period in these scenes is the early 20th century. Two of the figures depicted are Eugene V. Debs and A. Phillip Randolph..each of whom fought for better working conditions for railroad workers. Some of the other people were modelled by current Joliet residents.
The lead artists are Kathleen Farrell & Kathleen Scarboro. The piece is dated 1994.
