This tall obelisk, about 25 feet?, is located in Chicago's Graceland Cemetery and has the following engraving:
"WASHINGTON SMITH
BORN NOV., 8, 1808
DIED JAN. 6, 1879
-----
JANE ANN PALMER
HIS WIFE
BORN SEPT. 26, 1806
DIED FEB. 16, 1892"
Neither the Wikipedia article (visit link) which list prominent people buried here nor the Cemetery's own lists (visit link) have anything to say about the Smiths.
However, there is a nursing home in Chicago called "Washington & Jane Smith Home"...so, there's a hint...but, no other information could be found online.
