Misericórdia Church is an early 17th century church (circa 1634), property of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Peniche and attached to the former hospital of this charitable organization and is currently located in the historical core of Peniche.
Its facade in pombaline style ends in a triangular fronton carved with flame shapes.
Inside, the church is composed of a single aisle.
The internal decoration of the church is very attractive and features 17th century ceiling panels depicting the Life and Passion of Christ, but, it´s rare beauty is in the azulejo (tiles) panels from the same century.
The church also has 5 paintings by the famous artiste Josefa de Óbidos (1630-1684) who is buried in nearby Óbidos where she had settled in 1653, and, and Baltazar Gomes Figueira.
The clock tower was built in 1697.
