EPCOR has a 10-year utility management agreement with the Town of Canmore which includes water and wastewater treatment, water distribution, wastewater collection, storm drainage, biosolids composting, meter reading, billing and account management. The deal will save the Town more than $1 million in operating costs over the first five years of the agreement.

Water Treatment Facts

The Town of Canmore is supplied from two water sources - the Spray Lake reservoir system and a groundwater aquifer.
The Level II surface water treatment plant is equipped with a 7 ML/d direct filtration plant with chlorination and a state-of-the art UV water disinfection system.
The groundwater supply, with a capacity of 13 ML/d, is chlorinated and supplies approximately half of the town.

Water Treatment Process

The Canmore treatment facility process is as follows: Pumphouse #1 obtains groundwater, adds chlorine, and water and chlroine mix in a clearwell, then the water is distributed to reservoirs, homes & businesses.

In Pumphouse #2, a Rundle Forebay collector flows thru pipes where chlorine and coagulant are added, processed thru a mixer, then thru filers, a UV Disinfection system, a clearwell and then pumped to reservoirs, homes & buinesses.
What is the capacity of the facility?: The surface water treatment plant handles 7 ML/d. The groundwater supply has a capacity of 13 ML/d.
