Perhaps a bit more old fashioned than the other monuments cited by the Smithsonian. A sad longing is expressed between the mother and child.
Although not 100% sure, I suspect this monument relates to the Albert F. Madlener House, a Prairie School house located at 4 West Burton Place in Chicago. The house was built in 1902 for Albert F. and Elsa S. Madlener. It now houses the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts and is waymarked under the National Register category.
