A sobering reminder of how deep the water can get when a large snow pack melts very quickly. The river in the pictures, the South Thompson, was in a minor flood condition when the pictures were taken in early July.

Located in The High Water Plaza at Riverside Park, this column has markings on it that represent 4 flood events in Kamloops past including the highest flood ever recorded. That one occurred in 1894.
The four events occurred from bottom to top, 1999, 1948, 1972, and 1894.
The City of Kamloops has two rivers that flow through it. The South Thompson (The river in the background of the pictures) and the North Thompson that joins the South Thompson just a little Northwest of this location. The park that this marker is located in was has been under water as recent as 1999.
