Long Description:
This massive statue of Winston Churchill created by Ivor Roberts-Jones was erected in 1973. This 12-foot bronze statue atop an 8-foot plinth stands in Parliament Square and looks east towards Big Ben.

Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill (1874-1965) was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 and 1951 to 1955. A noted statesman and orator, Churchill was also an officer in the British Army, a historian, a writer, and an artist. To date, he is the only British prime minister to have received the Nobel Prize in Literature, and he was the first person to be made an honorary citizen of the United States.
