Normally, the United States Marine Corps is not associated with peace, quiet and tranquility but there is a torii arch just outside the historic building which invites rest and contemplation. It is centrally located on a hillside overlooking the Charlestown Navy Yard where weary visitors can sit, relax and watch and the multitude of tourists make their way around the nautical exhibits at this National Park Service historic site.
In this case, the torii arch probably signifies a hope for continuing peace between the United States and Japan.
