Barragem de São Domingos is a Water Dam in Atouguia da Baleia in Peniche.
The water dam is located in the São Domingos river and creates a lake with 4 kms long and 300 meters wide.
The dam has a usable capacity of water storage of about 7.55 million m3 and is intended for public supply in the city of Peniche.

Some dates:
1985 - Feder Funding (Estimate 833.000.000 escudos)
1986 - making of the Water Dam project, Pumping station and aqueducts.
1988 - Contract between Ministério do Planeamento and Câmara Municipal (City Hall). Beginning of the aqueducts contruction.
1990 - Behinning of the Dam Construction and the Hidromecanic Equipment
1993 - End of the Water Dam Works. Beginning of the Peniche Reservoir construction
1994 - End of the Peniche Reservoir construction. Project of the Water treatment plant.
1996 - Beginning of the construction of the pumping station.Beginnig of the construction of the water treatment plant
1997 - End of the pumping station works
1998 - End of the treatment plant works
Note: Even if motor vehicles have always been forbidden on the road that surrounds the Dam, the plaques have been torn out and many fishermen don´t know it´s forbidden. Recently, local authorities intend to enforce this, and, when we were there, they inspecting the place and warning the fisherman´s about that fact. If you want to explore the surroundings park at the given coordinates and walk (or cycle) from there.
