Port Germein is one of my favorite places to visit because of the long jetty, as well as the surrounding historical sites. The lighthouse is situated at it's original erection site, at the head of the jetty. The lighthouse was originally erected in 1894, and re-erected in 1975.
The structure appears to be of steel plate, welded, and bolted. It is not open to public access other than approach of the base, and cannot be climbed or entered.
The Jetty and the light house share histories in the grain shipping industry, and both were "retired" when the rail system was extended to Port Germein. The jetty is still open to the public for fishing and crabbing, and general sight seeing.
