A short history of churches and municipalities in Laval
Bishop François de Montmorency Laval was the first bishop of New France. From 1658 to 1687. The second bishop was Bishop Saint-Vallier from 1687 to 1727. So it was he who founded the parish of St. Francis de Sales and put it under the protection of this saint canonized in 1685 and in honor of the first bishop of Quebec who resigned in 1687.
The Church of St. Leopold was the 23th church to be built on the ground in 1960 Laval
In 1960 the Chapel of St. Leopold serving the parish of Ste-Rose, became independent parish, his first parish priest is Father Jean-Pierre Chicoine.
Leo Lefebvre in 1964 became the second priest.
In 1967, Guy Alluisi third pastor.
In 1976 Yvon Pepin 4th pastor.
In 1985 Gerald Robillard 5th pastor.
In 1992 Levi Cossette ofm. 6th is the parish priest and in 2002 he became moderator of the new unit pastoral Fabreville which includes the territories of St. Ferdinand and St. Edward.
In the three parishes in Fabreville Leopold St, St Ferdinand and St. Edward are assigned to a single priest. In 2002 the church and the rectory of St. Edward are sold to a Protestant community
Petite histoire des églises et des municipalités de Laval
Mgr François de Montmorency Laval fut le premier évêque de la Nouvelle France. De 1658 à 1687. Le deuxième évêque fut Mgr de Saint-Valier de 1687 à 1727. C’est donc lui qui créa la paroisse St-François-de-Sales et il la mit sous la protection de ce saint canonisé en 1685 et en l’honneur du premier évêque de Québec qui avait démissionné en 1687.
L’église Saint Léopold fut la 23iem église à être bâtie sur le sol Lavallois en 1960
En 1960 la chapelle de St-Léopold desserte de la paroisse de Ste-Rose, devient paroisse autonome, son premier curé sera l’abbé Jean-Pierre Chicoine.
En 1964 Léo Lefebvre devient le deuxième curé.
En 1967, Guy Alluisi troisième curé.
En 1976 Yvon Pepin 4ième curé.
En 1985 Gérald Robillard 5ième curé.
En 1992 Lévi Cossette ofm. Est le 6ième curé et en 2002 il deviendra le modérateur de la nouvelle unité pastorale de Fabreville qui regroupe les territoires de St-Ferdinand et de St-Edouard.
En À Fabreville les trois paroisses St Léopold, St Ferdinand et St-Edouard sont confiées à un seul curé. En 2002 l’église et le presbytère de St-Edouard sont vendus à une communauté protestante
