The Charlestown Navy Yard is part of the Boston National Historic Park. It is the where the U.S.S. Constitution is docked and marks the northeast end of the Freedom Trail.
Near the middle of the yard in an open space near a bench there are a pair of very large anchors on display. There are several other anchors on the grounds but one of these anchors is the only anchor to have a plaque attached. The inscription reads:
Admiralty Anchor
Not used subsequent to 1850 due to
awkward handling characteristics.
Source Unknown
Dredged up in Little Mystic Channel
off the shipyard 1956
Its weight (5 tons) and size indicate
used in heavy man of war of about
8,000 tons.
