The arena offers two 85' x 200' indoor ice rinks, a synthetic ice training area, weight room and meeting rooms. The Person:
Charles Monroe Schulz, November 26, 1922 – February 12, 2000, was a cartoonist best known for his comic strip Peanuts. He was born and raised in the Twin Cites. He was the youngest in his class at Central High School and a very shy youth. In 1943, he was drafted into the United States Army. Two years later he was in Le Havre, France to fight in World War II with the U.S. 20th Armored Division. He saw combat only at the very end of the war. While elements of the 20th Division participated in the liberation of Dachau concentration camp, Schulz's unit did not actually enter the camp. Schulz attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge.
After leaving the army in 1945 he returned to the Twin Cites to teach. Schulz's first regular cartoons, Li'l Folks, were published from 1947 to 1950 by the St. Paul Pioneer Press. In late 1950 Schulz approached the United Feature Syndicate with his best strips from Li'l Folks, and Peanuts made its first appearance on October 2, 1950. The strip became one of the most popular comic strips of all time.
