There is little mystery about how this pub attracted this name.

The picture of the pub here shows the sign flanked by a cherry tree. However, elsewhere in the pub grounds there is of course a pear tree.

Welwyn Garden City, being a new town, by nature has no older pubs in the town so all of the names, like this one are either manufactured or relate to something that stood nearby previously. This one being in Hollybush Lane could have been called The Holly Bush. But the pub at the other end of the road got there first.

The sign shows a boy pushing a girl in a swing. In his back pocket he has a catapult.
