The Devonshire Arms occupies the pointed end of the flatiron. There is some history about the pub, sign written, on the point that says:
"Devonshire Arms
The Devonshire Arms was established in 1793 in a well populated quiet location on Queen Street. The name of the street was changed in 1862 to its present title of Denman Street in commemoration of Dr Thomas Denman (1733-1815) a resident of the south side of the street.
Horse drawn carriages were the transport of the day and the pub's clientele, who were invariably travellers availed themselves of the good food & ale whilst awaiting transport from the coach house across the road.
With the development of the railway in the 1900's and the attraction of Piccadilly to business people the patronage changed.
The Devonshire Arms was one of the few buildings left standing in the Piccadilly area after World War II.
Entertainment which became more popular helped the pub trade to flourish again.
It's rumoured that notorious gangland leaders often met in the privacy of the Devonshire's first floor bar."
Date of construction.: 01/01/1793
Current use of the building.: Public House
