Trail along the Lagoa comprida water dam in Serra da Estrela.
The trail starts in the Dam Wall near the asphalt road.
Leave the asphalt at N 40° 21.910 W 007° 38.848, pass in front of the typical products and souvenir shops and follow the trail that starts after the shops untill you reach the given coordinates. Here there´s a large yard where you can leave a trailer or your car if you plan on go by bike or moto (personally i would prefer to leave it near the shops).
The trail starts here. It´s the only road leaving the place direction east. From here just follow the main road. There´s no mistake. When you reach N 40° 21.710 W 007° 37.648 follow the right trail.
When you reach N 40° 21.550 W 007° 37.578 you have to analize the trail conditions and decide if you go all the way or yurn around. If the water flow crossing the trail is high i dont advise that you go all the way because there are big rocks underwater and the water flow will probably push you to the trail walls (granite).
At the end of the trail there´s an old house and a river that comes out of a cave in the rocks. I believe that this was an old electric power plant but i can´t be 100% sure.
From here it´s a dead end. You have to go back trough the same way.
This is one of the best trails i´ve ever made. It has beautifull surroundings, dificult enough to get you a good driving time and, if you take care, no problem to the cars. Some parts of the trail can get very hard, specially the last 150 meters where you have a 50 meters of water crossing between granit walls and with a waterfall dumping water in the trail.
Trailers will have to be left at the beguining of the trail near the souvenier shops. Nearest camping is in Covilhã but there are 2 places where camping is allowed (Covão da Ametade and Covão da Ponte) but the facilities are the minimum.
