This is a cenotaph dedicated to those who lost their lives in the Korean War - along with plaques for others from WWI and WWII. This memorial contains the names of those who were from the Kettle Valley area - along with names copied from the cenotaph in Phoenix, BC. Phoenix is a long-abandonned mining town (all that is left is the cemetary and cenotaph) high in the mountains - which is often not accessible on November 11th due to snowfall. The names of fallen soldiers are copied here from that cenotaph so family and grateful citizens have a spot to pay their respects on Remembrance day.

This is a quiet, peaceful spot along Highway 3 and virtually on the banks of the Kettle River. Not really a park, the surrounding area is sweeping views of rocky mountains, pine forests and grasslands. The cairn itself is of piled mortared rock, with an accompanying flagpole. There is a also a Canada Geodetic Marker next to the cairn.

At the time of taking the photos for this waymark - some thoughtful soul had placed poppies around a plaque - a stark reminder of colour against the drab rocky backdrop of the cairn.
