No longer in service this little house was tight quarters after being divided in two. It may have come into use as an outcrop from the old railroad line that ran directly to the north of the outhouse. We found two references to the railroad using these octagonal buildings although not directly referenced as outhouses. One made reference that the Erie Railroad did indeed buy such buildings as "prefabs" for a cost of $65 in 1914. Can you think of something you could buy for 65 bucks that would last so long and obviously maintenance free?
The park now has a civic building with indoor "facilities" with all the modern conveniences.... ooh la la.
