At 1 hr 23 min, the world leaders (including a Gorbachev look-alike) gather at what I believe is intended to be a memorial to nuclear disarmament. The location is actually the famous Fountain of Time sculpture at the west end of the Midway Plaisance near the University of Chicago. (When the camera faces east in the scenes with the kilted guard on the left, you can see the outline of the university campus buildings in the background.) If you look carefully there is a low truncated pyramid type marker onto which they are placing flowers. On the left you can see a diagram of the atom. This is a movie prop. At that spot in actuality is a flat stone slab inscribed with information about the sculptor and his work.
More on the sculpture continued from the Smithsonian database:
"... including a central soldier on horseback surrounded by soldiers with banners, by refugees, camp-followers, lovers, youths, the aged, and even the sculptor and his assistants. The themes they represent include birth, the struggle for existence, love, family life, religion, poetry, and war."
