In 1903, the gas-operated "Range Light" was converted to electricity using a 16 candle-power lamp.
From 1940 to 1950, over 5000 ships used the Soulanges Canal every year.
The Soulanges canal and the range lights that marked its eastern and western ends were discontinued in 1958 following the inauguration of the St. Lawrence Seaway. After being neglected for a number of years, all four range lights have been restored but remain inactive.
