Venable Mound is a 22 foot-tall platform mound that measures 140 by 140 feet at the base, and 50 by 50 feet at the summit. It is the largest of 3 mounds that once stood here. Indians built the mound in several stages. Radiocarbon dates and decorated pottery suggest construction began around AD 800.
