The New Market Battlefield Military Museum is a private business at 9500 Collins Parkway in New Market. It is located just before the entrance to the State Historical Park and is on a portion of the battlefield where the solders were stationed in reserve locations.
The New Market Battlefield Military Museum is privately owned and operated by John Bracken. It is a collection of military memorabilia, books, and toys, particularly toy guns. The sign outside is intentionally misleading to make you think that you are at the Virginia Military Institute operated museum. While the museum has some interesting items to look at, if you are looking for detail on the Battle of New Market and the history of the VMI soldiers, you will be sadly disappointed. To make matters worse, once you figure it out and go to the actual Battlefield Museum, you get to pay all over again.
The museum has no website. The building was built about 15 years ago and was intentionally built to look like a civil war era building. For reviews of the museum, go to TripAdvisor.com.
