The book Utah's Black Hawk War, describes the war between the native Indians, and the first white settlers, set in the harsh environment of the old west. The details of the book describes the lives of those involved, some of the circumstances leading to the war and the aftermath of the battles. The Black Hawk war commenced in April 1865 on the same day that Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee met in Virginia to negotiate the conclusion of the Civil War. The war officially ended three years later but scattered Indian raids continued until 1872. This book was very interesting to us as we have visited and waymarked some of the places described in the book. One of the places is Fort Utah which was constructed prior to the war. Another is the grave site of Chief Black Hawk which is .4 from this location. See the photo gallery.
