This monument is more a curiosity than roadside oddity. And while many of Florida's man-made roadside attractions may be on the garish side, this one exudes the peace that awaits the pet cemetery behind it. The statue depicts an angel with horse and dog. It is on the east side of U.S. 441 between McIntosh and Micanopy (which is between Ocala and Gainesville). The garden behind it, incidentally, is a functioning and immaculately maintained pet cemetery that serves as a final resting place for dogs, cats, a goat, a rat, a squirrel, a hamster, a duck, a cockatiel, and even an 800-pound horse. The park is a lush slice of North Central Florida with headstones and statues and plenty of oak-shaded zen.

Keep an eye open for owls perched on oak limbs above the headstones.
