These falls were running in their full glory when the waymark was posted. Typically these seasonal falls will run during the spring snow meltoff. Due to a heavy snow accumulation during the winter of 2010-2011 the falls were running full force on July 4th.
After a heavy mountain rain storm they will gush for a while but usually calm down to just a trickle and just ease out of the rocky gorge they follow. Hays Creek empties out into the Crystal River.
Be watching carefully as you approach these falls as their is no warning along the highway and many people pass right on by as they are heading south along Hwy 133. Don't worry though since there is a gravel pull-out about 200 feet further south so that you can turn around or hike back to view the falls. If you are heading north and pass it by then you can turn into the pull-out on the river side (east side) of the road and hike back.
There is a small pull-out just before the falls if you are heading south. It's just about big enough for 3 cars or 2 trucks. Stay on the west side of your vehicle because you will be right up along Hwy 133 and just around a blind curve in the road.
