There are several major entrances to Rocky Mountain National Park. I used coordinates from the entrance through Estes Park on Hwy 36, which is probably the most well-known access point. This is also the route of the Hiker's Shuttle, which is an effort to ease crowding of the limited parking in Rocky Mountain National Park. (

There are no accommodations in park, though camping is available ranging from RVs and trailers to backpacking tents. There are 359 miles hiking trails ranging from easy to very difficult. There is only one 14,000' (a 'Fourteener'; 4,267 m) mountain in the park, Long's Peak, which is a favorite for hikers to 'bag.' Probably the most common visit through the park is to drive Trail Ridge Road, which is the highest continuous highway in the United States. (

During the short-lived autumn, visitors may enjoy the aspen tress changing color and the elk rut! The park is open to winter activities such as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. This is a great place to visit whether you have a day or a week.
