Crested Butte is equally known for the steep skiing areas as well as hundreds of miles of mountain bike trails. The town hosts many athletic competitions throughout the year but also has that laid-back small mountain town atmosphere that encourages just bench sitting. (

Crested Butte, as with many other mountain towns, was originally a mining boom town. The discovery of nearby coal kept the small community alive.
