According to a brass plaque on a cairn on the village green outside this pub, there has been an ale house on this site for several centuries. The plaque also asserts that Oliver Cromwell’s men may have visited here in the 17th century. In more modern times there is documentary evidence of a pub here, of this name, since 1882.
The pub was used as the location of the Black Swan in the film 633 Squadron in 1964.
