This old jail was built in 1891 in a Gothic-style design. It was designed like a castle for the native European residents would be familiar with the type of building. It has steep gables, protruding turrets, odd roof lines, and a rounded tower, invoking fear in citizens 120+ years ago. The jail is attached by underground tunnel to the nearby old courthouse.
The building is now a law office and still includes one full jail cell with iron bars to remind visitors of its past glory.
