The dedication inscription on the obelisk reads as follows:
"Erected in memory of the patriotic Volunteers of Westminster, whose lives were sacrificed in defense of Liberty and Union, during the Great Rebellion."
Beneath this inscription and on the remaining three sides of the obelisk are the names of the patriotic Westminster volunteers who died during the war. In addition to each individual's name is the date and location where they died and their age.
