Jardim do Cerco
Situated between the majestic Palace of Mafra and Tapada de Mafra, with a style typically Baroque, the Garden of Cerco was created by the king D. John V, in 1718.
This fabulous garden consists of two distinct parts: the Botanical Garden and the Woods.
With free access to anyone who wants to visit this magical place, in the Jardim do Cerco the visitor enters a idyllic baroque universe of kings and princes, among the sycamores, cedars and hollies: the perfect garden for the work of the majestic Palace of Mafra.
Until the extinction of religious orders in 1834, the Jardim do Cerco was used by congregations who resided at the Convent of Mafra. After that it belonged to the Royal House, which holds possession of the Palace until the establishment of the Republic.
Today belongs to the Municipality of Mafra, which keeps him as a common space for all who wish to enjoy.
