Alexander Stadium is the main athletics (track & field) venue in central England. It hosts local, regional, national and international events. The stadium is the home of the Birchfield Harriers club. It has recently hosted a diamond league meeting, as well as the UK trials, 2 major events in the UK athletics calendar.

The International Athletics Stadium comprises full International Association of Athletics Federations track and field competition areas. It hosts the UK National Championships each year and one or more other major Athletics competition on an annual basis.

The facility also boasts an Indoor High Performance Centre, a state of the art venue comprising 110 metre track, high jump, pole-vault, triple jump, long jump and an indoor throws cage.

Birchfield Harriers Athletics Club is based at the Alexander Stadium and hold club nights every Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Birchfield Harriers is the UK’s premier athletics club in the Midlands and has been represented at every summer Olympiad bar one since 1908. One hundred Birchfield Harriers have flown the flag for their country in the Olympic Games in the last hundred years and hopes to increase this number at London 2012.

The stadium has had various incarnations over the years, since opening in 1978 with the track and main stand only. The latest addition (the back straight stand) was officially opened at the diamond league meeting on 10 July 2011.

If visiting the venue for a big event, ideally use public transport as the road network is not designed to cope with the number of cars arriving for a major tournament. The pictures uploaded are from the 2011 diamond league meeting, where despite the showers we saw a good afternoon of athletics.

Note: The GPS coordinates above are for the main stand entrance. If you are in one of the other stands, you'll need to enter the stadium elsewhere.
