The Pousade de Queluz / Lisboa - D. Maria I is located in the building formerly used by the Royal Guard of the Court in the Palace of Queluz, known as the "Portuguese Versailles". This Pousada's attractive interior design and exacting recuperation of its little private "theatre", can only match the exquisite cuisine of the Cozinha Velha Restaurant.
It was builded in the second half of the XVIII century in one of the latest works of the Queluz Royal Palace. It´s construction and design is from Manuel Caetano de Sousa, one of the latest representants of the late barroque in Portugal who suceeded the Palace arquitects Mateus Vicente and Jean Baptiste Robillon.
In the 1990 decade the building was adapted has a hotel but the main façade was kept intact. It opened in 1995.
