The Paimogo Fort, or, "Our Lady of the Angels of Paimogo Fort is located in a clif above the Paimogo beach near Lourinhã.
The fort was built in the 2nd half of the XVII century by appointment of D. António Luís de Menezes, Marquis of Marialva, according to the barroque military architecture and was part of the 2nd fortified defensive line that started in the nearby Peniche Fort and ended in the Tagus River.
After 15 years the Lourinhã city hall has taken the fort into his possession for a period of 25 years and it´s now part of the "Dinossaur route".
Today, the fort is at the final stage of restauration and the city hall foresees to invest more in the fort rehabilitating it for touristic porpuses. The project, presented in 2004 predicts investments up to 1 million Euros with the creation of a gallery for temporary exhibitions, exhibition hall for the paleontological findings that have been made near the fort (dinossaur eggs), reading room and a cafeteria with esplanade. The surrounding areas will be used for outdoor temporary exhibitions
