While out geocaching we came to this nice rail to trail. When you visit this nice trail don't forget to go to Big, Short, Little Kid Walk by GrandpanGrandma GC2630J and Retired Gate Post by M/Cwing&Sunshine GCTWGP which are very fun geocaches.

The Sign at this rail trail reads:

THE WEBER PATHWAYS RAIL TRAIL COUNTY LINE TRAILHEAD

This trail started out as the Little Mountain Branch Railroad, built by the Union Pacific in 1971 to compete with the Southern Pacific hauling salt and other minerals from the Great Salt Lake. After the UP-SP merger, the line became redundant, and Weber Pathways, a local non-profit organization, purchased the railroad corridor to save it for trail use and preserve its 231 acres of wildlife habitat. The trail, dedicated June 1, 2002, is now owned by Weber County and by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources.

The trail is open to the public year round for hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian use as far west as the Harold Crane Trailhead at 6700 West. Beyond that point, the trails is closed from March 1 to September 1 to protect the bird nesting habitat. Items of interest along the trail include the old railroad mile markers and warning symbols, plus wildlife such as ducks, geese, white pelicans, black-necked stilts, American avocets, white-faced ibis, and yellow head blackbirds. Please pack out all litter with you, and remember that bikes yield to hikers and horses, and hikers also yield to horses. While encountering equestrians, greet the riders and talk to them, so as not to spook the horses. Enjoy the trail!
