Very large and tall statue. It was formerly located n the middle ground at the intersection of Jeff. Davis Parkway at the Canal Street crossing. Appeared in great condition at the time of its waymarking. I happened by this, not exactly looking for it. One of many great art pieces hidden throughout New Orleans' along streets and highways in public grounds. There is a small kids park located a few hundred feet from this. This statue was removed and placed in storage in 11 May 2017 as one of four Confederate monuments the New Orleans City Ciuncik ordered be relocated. From the Smithsonian website, the inscription states

(On base:) JEFFERSON DAVIS/PRESIDENT/CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA/1861-1865/SOLDIER-STATESMAN-PATRIOT/ HIS NAME IS ENSHRINED IN THE HEARTS OF THE PEOPLE FOR WHOM HE SUFFERED AND HIS DEEDS ARE FOREVER WELDED TO IMMORTALITY A MAJESTIC ORATOR; IN CHARACTER/FIRM; IN JUDGEMENT SOUND, IN PURPOSE/RESOLUTE. (Incised on bronze rocks:) 1776 (Incised under proper left hand on column:) 1878 (Incised on rim of column:) 1787 signed Founder's mark appears.

On base, What I read and have pictures of reads
JEFFERSON DAVIS/PRESIDENT/CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA/1861-1865/SOLDIER-STATESMAN-PATRIOT/THE SOUTH SEEKING A LEADER FOR/THE HIGHEST OFFICE, CHOOSE HIM FROM/AMONG HER MEN. A PROFOUND/STUDENT OF THE CONSTITUTION;/A MAJESTIC ORATOR; IN CHARACTER/FIRM; IN JUDGEMENT SOUND, IN PURPOSE/RESOLUTE<br
