South of the medieval center of Säckingen is the public park around Schönau castle. The castle is now a museum of local history.

There is a memorial for Joseph Victor von Scheffel, the author of the famous novel "The Trumpeter of Säckingen". South of the castle there is a band shell where regular concerts are held in summer. The park also has a minigolf course and a small aviary. The castle with the park was built in the 17th century, in 1928 it became property of the municipality.
