This bell was originally bought, in 1900, for the then newly built Fire Headquarters building on West School Street. For many years it went mysteriously missing. It was recovered from a wooded area in town, re-plated by the local Fountain Plating Co. and put on permanent display in front of the present Fire Department Headquarters on 44 Van Deene Avenue.
A plaque underneath the bell reads:
