The Smithland Bridge, over the Cumberland River, is dedicated to the memory of Lucy Jefferson Lewis, a pioneer settler in Livingston COunty, Kentucky in 1808. She was the sister of President Thomas Jefferson. Mrs. Lewis' obelisk is locared two miles north of the bridge. Built by the State High Commision in 1931, it was originally a toll bridge to replace the Smithland ferry. Original Capacity was 15 tons.
