The table is showing the Mill Creek Canyon and creek and it's relationship to the Salt Lake Valley. There are also additional canyons that feed into Mill Creek and mountain tops that are listed on the map with a direction arrow. The "you are here" indication gives one a sense of direction as to where to look for the features shown on the map table. As you look at the table you are facing the same direction as the table is orientated.
This area is where some of the early pioneers settled to build their homes and lively-hoods. They relied on the water from Mill Creek to water their crops and also many water mills were constructed along the creek and using the power of the water to run their mills.
