Being posted to Fort Charlotte wasn't exactly a desirable duty for British soldiers. There was the constant threat of malaria and yellow fever, days were hot and soldiers were often bored. The historic graffiti carved into the stone walls at Fort Charlotte alleviated the boredom and also affirmed the soldiers presence in the event they died from tropical disease. The graffiti ranges from the simple to the extremely time consuming and elaborate.
