On April 1, 2010, the Visitors Center opened at 100 Beaty Street North beside the duck pond at Big Spring Memorial Park. Athens City Council decided to renovate the building and allow the Greater Limestone County Chamber of Commerce Tourism Council to rent the building for a Visitors Center. The center has a visitors area, small museum, gift shop and meeting room that is available for rent.
A staff is available Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM to answer questions, assist visitors in locating events, attractions, hotels/motels, restaurants, shopping and other items of interest. The gift shop has Civil War Prints, caps, t-shirts, quilts, purses, Christmas ornaments, Christmas Cards, Post Cards, BBQ Sauce, DVDs, CDs, and much more for sale.
