Colton Point State Park - Wellsboro, Pennsylvania
Colton Point is located on the west rim of Pine Creek Gorge (Pennsylvania's Grand Canyon). Most of the park's facilities were constructed in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps. (CCC) They built things like the overlook, restrooms, picnic facilites, parking lots, and potable water facilities. The present camping area was added in 1970 with the disposal station in 1977, shortly after a water system was completed in 1973. Not much has changed to the park since the 1980's
Park Facilities
Picnicking: Five picnic pavilions, about 100 picnic tables and rustic restrooms are available.
Camping: There is a 30-campsite campground as well as group facilities to accommodate up to 90 persons. Both areas share a composting restroom facility. A trailer disposal system is available, however there are no hookups for recreational vehicles.
Hiking: Three Hiking Trails are available that are very challenging for hikers, they include:
- Rim Trail: 1-mile flat terrain following the gorgeline, connecting the vistas
- Turkey Path: A very difficult trail that goes to the canyon floor.
- West Rim Trail: A long distance trail connecting Colton Point to Blackwell and is mostly in Tioga State Forest, however it makes the western park border.
