The Funeral Directors Services Association of Greater Chicago donated the funerals, which were held jointly on the nearby steps of the Oakridge Abbey Mausoleum on June 12, 1981. Each coffin was then taken to a different Chicago area cemetery and buried with a graveside service. All are marked by the same inscribed stone.

John Wayne Gacy was convicted of killing 33 young men in the Chicago area from 1972 - 1978. After 14 years on death row, he was executed in 1994.
