The hospital comprises acute and medical services to a regional population of 518,000. James provides the only private maternity unit on the south side of Canberra with a special care nursery.

With increasing financial pressures in the years leading up to 2006, brought about by many factors including the rapidly changing nature of the healthcare industry, it became uneconomic for the John James Foundation to continue to operate the hospital.

The hospital business (excluding the land and buildings) was sold in October 2006 to Calvary Private Healthcare Canberra Limited and has become part of the group of hospitals run by Little Company of Mary Health Care. The John James Foundation continues to own all of the hospital and clinical land and buildings, now known as the John James Healthcare Campus, at 173 Strickland Crescent in Deakin. The hospital buildings are leased, on a long term basis, to Calvary Private Healthcare Canberra Ltd.

Services available include:
• Ear, Nose & Throat surgery
• Gastroenterology
• General medicine
• General surgery
• Gynaecology
• Neurology
• Obstetrics with a Special Care Nursery
• Orthopaedics
• Paediatric surgery
• Plastic surgery
• Rehabilitation physicians
• Thoracic surgery
• Urology
• Vascular surgery

It also has the only purpose built private rehabilitation unit with hydrotherapy pool in Canberra.

The Calvary John James site covers 4 hectares of landscaped gardens which provide a sanctuary to patients and visitors alike.

Visiting hours for surgical wards is 10am to 1pm and then again from 3pm to 8pm.
Visiting hours for maternity patients is 3pm to 5pm and then again from 7pm to 8pm.

Patients staying in the Rehabilitation Unit will be provided with a treatment program and will need to inform friends and relatives of the times they will be available.

There is adequate car parking available within the grounds of the hospital at either the front of the hospital or by continuing to drive towards the maternity entrance.
