In Boston, along Beacon Street is a distinctive set of wooden doors at the level of the sidewalk. These door are distinguished by the two beautiful knockers in the form of lionheads.
The nearest street number is '42', over a door on the right, which appears to be an upper entrance to the same building. The door with the lions opens to a short courtyard to another door to the building.
The doors are arched at the top and framed by stonework all around. Each door made of a heavy, dark, wood, and likely has several layers; the outer face having vertical planks. Elaborate metal-work covers the doors. The central feature are lionhead knockers. Large studs decorate the door, and hinges extend across the face in a 'crowsfeet' pattern.
This part of Beacon Street is a very popular place to walk. It follows the edge of Boston Common, leading to Charles Street or to Park Street.
